The Tastes and Charms of Gyeongju
Market Day in Gyeongju,
Gathered in a Shopping Basket
Some places are night markets, and others are Christmas markets. A market in a travel destination is a place that shows a city at its most honest. There, the season and the lives of its people reveal themselves naturally, and the present-day life of that place is gathered in a shopping basket.

A Hundred-Year Market with a Rich, Nutty Scent:
Angang Market
Angang Market is located at the point where the Taebaek mountain range meets the East Sea coast, and brings together a wide variety of ingredients and produce. It is a market that has maintained a hundred-year tradition since opening in 1923, and offers fresh seafood, fruit, dry goods, and miscellaneous goods. Along with its permanent stalls, a five-day rotating market (oiljang) opens on the fourth and ninth of every month, and on market days, residents from surrounding areas come to join the bustle.
Angang Market is particularly renowned for its sesame oil. At the oil press stalls, freshly pressed sesame oil is available on the spot, and its rich, nutty fragrance draws visitors in with each step. It is the one item not to miss on any visit.

Market Day Unfolding in the Alleyways:
Geoncheon Market
Geoncheon Market is a traditional market that has been in continuous operation since 1914. On the fifth and 10th of each month, vendors gather along a roughly 50-meter stretch around the Singyeongju Agricultural Cooperative intersection to form a lively marketplace. Clothing, seasonal fruit and vegetables, dried seafood, farming tools, and everyday household goods are all available. On market days, stalls line the alleyways, and residents converge on the market. The back-and-forth of greetings and bargaining between vendors and shoppers creates a lively, warm atmosphere. it is an everyday market where seasonal produce and local food await, and a pleasant place to wander through at a leisurely pace.
